MN Job Fair Starts Careers

The annual Minnesota Job Fair will kick off Friday, Feb. 19 at the Minneapolis Convention Center. Southwest Minnesota State University and seven other four-year state colleges have sponsored the fair for over 20 years.

"The Minn. Job and Internship Fair offers students and alumni an opportunity to network with employers and possibly interview for full time and internship openings," Sheila Risacher, director of Career Services said.

RHA Votes on Smoking in Residential Area

After a week-long table of the Resident Hall smoking ban, the Southwest Minnesota State University Resident Hall Association executive board and body members met on Feb. 4 to vote on the proposal.

During the RHA meeting held on Jan. 28, the RHA executive board and body members discussed the proposal to be written by the Resident Hall Association of a complete smoking ban in the residential area on campus.

Student Center at Southwest Minnesota State University is filled with colors of murals luring everybody's attention towards the meaningful paintings revealing the culture of south western Minnesota.

"The project, entitled Mi Casa Es Su Casa, is displayed so as to reflect the variation of the cultures in southwestern Minnesota together with immigrating cultures," said Jim Hubley .

For two years, president of Colleges Against Cancer Kinsey Stauffer has headed up the Southwest Minnesota State University's Relay for Life.

Relay for Life is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Funds raised by each team go towards cancer treatment and research.

RHA had an exciting week and finally had the general body make a motion on the smoking topic. The following is the recommendation I will be bringing to Paul LaMantia, Director of Residence Life:

"It is the following recommendation of RHA to ban smoking 25 feet from the parameter of any Residence Life building with the following consequences for breaking the ban: first offense $25 fine, $50 fine for second offense, third offense $75 fine, each consecutive offense increasing by $25.

Women Split Weekend Series

The Southwest Minnesota State University's women's basketball team went 1-1 over the weekend. On Friday, the women beat St. Cloud State 66-44, then lost to Concordia-St. Paul 93-69 on Saturday.

The women are now 15-9 overall and 9-8 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, and have now won their most games in a single season since the 2004-05 season, when they won 19 times.
