Reports
SAFAC Chair
Justin McMartin
SAFAC budget hearings will likely take place before spring break, McMartin said. There was no meeting last week because there were no spontaneous requests.
President Erin Kooiker
Kooiker attended the commencement committee meeting last week where topics of discussion included the budget for commencement, speaker recommendations and the ceremony itself, she said. They also discussed possibly having a second student speaker for the ceremony, Kooiker said.
Tyler Bowen, alumni director at SMSU, asked Kooiker to find a student who would be interested in helping with the design of an alumni class ring, she said. Bowen wants a sophomore or a junior because they would likely be the first class the ring would be available for.
The senate also approved the appointment of Lee Trotman to the J-Board for next semester.
SAC Coordinator
Stefanie Piram
The Nov. 17 Yellowcard concert was SMSU's third largest for attendance and second biggest for revenue, Piram said. A total of 1422 tickets were sold, and a full report on all costs will be available at the end of the month, she said.
Legislative Affairs Chair
Jeff Schaefer
The legislative affairs committee moved to change the legislative affairs section of the SMSUSA operating procedures. The change would remove the statement "Use letter-writing and e-mail campaigns to voice campus concerns and student issues." It would add that the committee would "Participate in MSUSA legislative campaigns when they coincide with the goals of the SMSU Student Association." The change would also expand upon statements regarding tracking of bills, increasing student awareness and involvement in the political process and increasing voter turnout.
