Guest Speaker
Julia Miller, MSUSA Campus Organizer, talked to the Senate about two ongoing campaigns - the Caucus Campaign and the Textbook Campaign. The Caucus Campaign is intended to get more students to attend the caucuses. The Textbook Campaign's goal is to form a commission at the State Legislator level to research the textbook industry, looking specifically at the high cost of textbooks.
Reports
Shantel Free, RHA Report
The recent RHA meeting involved a lot of planning. RHA is helping with the Medallion Hunt during Winter Meltdown week. In February, there will be a Hollywood Squares-themed event planned. Also, a rummage sale is in the works.
Justin McMartin,
SAFAC Report
There were three spontaneous funds requests. The first request was for $497 by the Spur requesting more money for staff and editor payroll. This request was approved.
The second and third requests were both made by the Black Student Union. The first request was for $600 for food and supplies for the Soul Food event. The second request was for expenses for the PanAfrica conference. The Senate approved both requests.
There is a plan to get advisors from the different clubs and organizations to a meeting to learn the budget process and exactly what SAFAC is. Scott Ewing, Lisa Kratz, and/or Justin McMartin will be running this meeting.
Kara Brockett, MSUSA
Cultural Diversity Rep.
Report
She talked about Black History Month activities at a meeting. The kick-off event will be Soul Food. There was also a meeting with Adam Hughes, the Cultural Diversity Facilitator about the upcoming conference in February.
Jessica Pearson, Academic
Affairs Committee Chair
The committee will be planning the Academic Excellence Banquet. The committee also plans to look into why there seems to be so many popular classes offered during the same time slot. Another goal will be to have ISBN numbers added to the booklist, barring any legal issues.
Sara Howard, Cultural
