Southwest Minnesota State University's Office of Business Services and Business Manager Deb Kerkaert recently received awards from Minnesota State Colleges and Universities for their effort and skill.
MnSCU has offered the statewide awards since 1997. There are currently four categories: Financial Management, Facilities Management, the Chancellor's Award and the Outstanding Service Award.
The Office of Business Services won the team based Excellence in Financial Management Award. Reasons for its nomination included accurate and timely financial data, clean audits, and a friendly atmosphere.
"After four years of being president of SMSU, I have come to realize the excellent resource I have in the Office of Business Services," said David Danahar, president of SMSU. "I am pleased to be associated with them."
"Our office works very hard in a team environment," said Kerkaert. "It's nice to be recognized this way."
Kerkaert, who earned her B.A. in business administration and her M.B.A. from SMSU, accepted the Outstanding Service Award, which is an individual achievement. Reasons for her nomination included her extra effort, abilityto meet deadlines, willingness to be involved in important areas and her ability to anticipate data needs.
"The awards are judged and decided by a group of employees from the MnSCU Office of the Chancellor, who have first-hand knowledge of the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to earn the awards," Fraunfelder said.
"Time and time again, Ms. Kerkaert has proven her abilities, her steadfast loyalty to SMSU, and her extreme dedication to duty," Danahar said. "I am indeed proud to be associated with her."
"Business Services has very skilled staff and [Kerkaert] provides terrific leadership as the business manager," said Doug Fraunfelder, vice-president for Finance and Administration at SMSU. "This recognition is well deserved and reinforces what many of us have known for a long time - we have some great employees here at SMSU."
