Work is beginning for SMSU to get a hockey program in the near future.

Three weeks ago, Lucas Tetrick, a Marshall resident, started a petition on to bring a a men’s and women’s hockey program to SMSU. The university has never had a hockey team in its 49-year existence.

After two weeks of petitioning, Lucas has received 158 supporters and growing. The petition will be delivered to Minnesota State Representatives Collin Peterson, John Kline and Erik Paulsen, and Senators Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken.

Other sports SMSU lacks include swimming, men’s golf and men’s tennis. SMSU also has a dance team and men’s soccer team but are considered clubs.
