Wrestling Team Wins at Home

The wrestling Mustangs took a win and a loss over the weekend against Northern State and St. Cloud State, respectively, bringing their overall record to 11-5 in the 2013-2014 season.

Facing off against St. Cloud State Thursday, Feb. 6, the Southwest Minnesota State University Mustangs took a 26-10 loss despite a few individual wins in the meet. Though the St. Cloud Huskies maintained their early lead, teammates Kyle Begin, Jacob Begin and Andrew Rodas won by decision in their individual matchups, bringing the SMSU team to 10 points in the meet.

The team turned around with a win on Friday, Feb. 7 in a home meet against Northern State University. Only losing one individual matchup in the entire meet, the Mustangs won with a season-high of 42 points to NSU’s 3. Alongside Thursday’s meet winners (Begin, Begin & Rodas, who all won their individual meets on Friday), Justin Reinsma Beau Buysse, Codie Lane, Cole Wilson, Antonio Meikel and Ethan Hildebrant also won in their matchups.

The team will continue with their final regular season game on Feb. 22 in a home meet against the University of Mary. The NCAA Regional will begin the first weekend of Mar., Feb. 28-Mar.1.
