Swapping out their usual Roy Griak Invitational this past weekend, the Mustang men’s and women’s cross country teams headed south to Wayne, NE, for the Wayne State Classic on Friday, Sept. 27.

The women competed first in a 5000-meter race, with Kayla Jansky capturing second place in a time of 20:02, putting her 20 seconds behind Minnesota State Moorhead’s Kathryn Sistrunk. The women finished in third place behind MSU Moorhead and Wayne State College who took first and second respectively.

Clayton Hartle and Logan Knutson led the men’s team with times of 28:47 and 28:49,
respectively in their 8000-meter race. The men’s team finished in sixth place, while MSU
Moorhead’s men took home first place with a perfect score of 15.

Because Wayne State is hosting the conference meet on Oct. 26, the race gave the Mustangs and the idea of what that will look like.

The Mustangs will return to action at the St. Cloud State Invitational in Sauk Rapids, MN, on Friday, Oct. 11.
